i love this ceramic vessel. it is a casserole dish designed and crafted by my mom. this is a design she has perfected over the years. many women in our family have a vessel very much like this one in their own homes. it links us all together through her art. this vessel symbolizes so many themes important to my own art. the woman as a vessel, the vessel as a means for nourishment, the hand made vessel crafted by a woman with all the landmark celebrations of process. the time and stages it takes to reach its final pure state is very much like the purification of womanhood.

here is a sample of one of my collage/print/paintings. i like to combine handmade elements of intaglio etching with watercolor paintings and ink line drawings. i am intrigued by the female profile. i tend to go back to it over and over again. this piece was done in 2004 and is in a private family collection.

finals are finally over at University of Redlands! after 2 straight days of grading, (and two straight days of eating nothing but doughnuts and chocolates) i feel like i might get my life back. just 2 weeks ago, my other students finished finals at Calstate San Bernardino! now--this is not to say that all my creative energy was exhausted on teaching finals, rather than making art. ok, maybe it was. even still, i somehow managed to sell some prints at a recent art show nonetheless. (thanks to a wonderful mountain art patron!) anyway, i digress, back to my original point. i have to say that i am exhillerated about these final finals. my art students did some fabulous drawings and lithographs displayed in really cool multi-media presentations. fantastic! thank you Mac computers for making artmaking/teaching a little easier!

so, i have just two more months of teaching this academic year, and then i really look forward to a summer away from teaching where i can explore b&w photography in both of my darkrooms (digital and traditional!) i also intend to slow down a bit. perhaps i will sit around and watch my boys grow!
